Set your calendar and ready your palates, as this year’s Zinfandel Experience is coming in hot! (Editor’s note: Don’t take this lightly if you like Zin. This should be considered the Super Bowl of Zinfandel tastings!)

San Francisco will once again play host to ZAP, one of the largest consumer based wine advocacy groups in the world. That’s a whole lot of Zinfandel love!

What is ZAP?

ZAP is short for Zinfandel Advocates and Producers. These miracle workers are dedicated to the preservation, education and appreciation of America’s grape, the Zinfandel. It’s a classic all-American success story! From its humble beginnings, this grape has grown from obscurity to widespread recognition for producing award winning wines from some of California’s most sought after growing regions.

There are no losers, only winners when it comes to wine tasting.

Living and working in Sacramento, one doesn’t have to go far to indulge in both deliciousness and history in a glass. Depending on who you ask and where they are from, you’ll hear consumers fiercely take sides, like they are defending a loved one, to declare Lodi, Amador, Paso Robles, Dry Creek or Mendocino as their #1 AVA for Zinfandel. Truthfully, there is no wrong answer!

The beauty of this event, other than the rugged beauty created by old vines, is that you’re able to “treat yo self” to some of California’s best Zinfandel producers — some of whom have been producing Zins for nearly as long as California has been a state!

Don’t let this experience pass you by. There is still time to get your tickets and partake in the sights, sounds, and most importantly, the taste of this year’s event.

There will be plenty to choose from, but here are a few of our favorites who will be there:

Oak Farm – Lodi
2017 Oak Farm Zinfandel
Bold in color, this Lodi Zinfandel has aromas of earthy eucalyptus and cedar. It has an elegant mouthfeel with flavors of dark fruit ending with a bright, rich, and structured finish.

Deaver Vineyards – Plymouth
2016 Henry’s House Zinfandel
This zinfandel brings bright and lively acidity complemented by black cobbler fruits with undertones of raspberry and elegant tannin structure.

J Dusi Wines – Paso Robles
100% Zinfandel.
The 2016 Paper Street Zinfandel stands apart from The Dante Dusi Vineyard in so many ways. It commands control of the glass with the dark and intense fruit structure with light spice and big bursts of boldness.
